Read and comment about la Alpujarra in all it’s seasons

This year, together with our partners, we are offering two very special  events.  The first provides  a chance to discover the butterflies , birds and flowers of the alpujarra with a real expert, this organised by the specialist group Nature Trek. Meanwhile, following on from the success of last year, we are again providing the venue for Sam Clark of the Moro restaurant , who in the autumn will be here for another week of cookery demonstration and superb cuisine.  For more information follow this link:

Where We Are

For those othose visitors with their own transport we are well placed for day trips to the beautiful city of Granada with its Moorish palace of the Alhambra and renaissance cathedral and monuments. You may want to visit the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, the first Catholic monarchs, or simply stroll along the narrow streets stopping for tapas at local bars or in hidden squares.

Also within close driving distance is the troglodyte town of Guadix with its weekly street market selling local produce. On the way you can stop at the stunning castle of La Calahorra set on its own on a hill with the vast expense of the Sierra Nevada behind.

We are one just over an hour away from the unspoilt protected area of Cabo de Gata with its wild beaches cliffs and bird santuary. This is an ideal spot for traditional fish restaurants and for those who wish to contrast the mountain life in Mairena with a few hours next to the sea. For others who wants to leave the stresses of driving behind, local transport can also be arranged at little extra cost.
